Literature Text

We are condemned to forced silence
The only sound the muttering hearth
Shadows of candlelight danced upon yellowed walls
Lighting the way for cold feet into bed
Nestling in to whisper and play
Waiting for the shock of existence to return
To break the black edict of serenity
To bring us the static warmth
Mend the lines that once held us
And fear no more the midnight
Dawn will bring the grey
Consuming tranquility quashed by a solid shout
My wife and I spent a great deal of our budding relationship apart. For Christmas of 2003, however, I took the week off from my job in Denver, Colorado and stayed with her until a bit after New Years of 2004 in Coquille, Oregon.

Sometime after New Years Day, the power went out and stayed off for a little over twenty-four hours. In that time, I was inspired to write this.
